Our opinion on the vintage
Herdade Do Mouchao
Herdade do Mouchão is an iconic wine estate located in the Alentejo region of Portugal, founded in the early 20th century by the Reynolds family and renowned for introducing the Alicante Bouschet grape variety to the area. The estate covers nearly 900 hectares, including many plots of old vines that produce high-quality grapes.
This estate produces several ranges of wines, including Mouchão, a powerful and structured red wine made primarily from Alicante Bouschet grapes and aged for extended periods in traditional oak barrels, as well as cuvées like Dom Rafael and Ponte Mouchão, showcasing diversity and finesse. White wines are also produced from grape varieties such as Verdelho.
The estate's viticulture respects traditional methods, with manual harvesting, aging in wood and winemaking designed to fully express the characteristics of the Alentejo terroir, resulting in elegant, deep wines suitable for aging.
