Located a stone's throw from the Saône, the Cave des Voyageurs is a Lyon institution where Gones and visitors have been jostling for almost twenty years. Here, we let ourselves be guided and we taste: sometimes blindly, but always with great pleasure, in a playful and hedonistic approach to wine.
On Place Saint-Paul, just opposite the station, the Cave des Voyageurs has been welcoming the curious for almost 20 years. Go through the door, sneak under the drying sausages on the ceiling and head towards the zinc. The team will then direct your choice among more than 500 references, which are mainly located on the Burgundy-Beaujolais-Rhône Valley axis, but also in the South of France!
Jeannot Markarian founded the Cave des Voyageurs in 1998. "But the spirit hasn't changed," assures Lucas, the youngest member of the team: "What interests us is to arouse the curiosity of the people who visit us.
Here, the worked references (a good number of which are proposed by the glass every evening) reflect the naughty spirit of the place: fresh and spicy syrahs, thirsty cinsaults, tasty pinots... " And what we love above all is when someone comes to see us and asks us to make them appreciate the Beaujolais!", adds Lucas.
La Cave des Voyageurs is therefore a place where the owners will have at heart to surprise you and satisfy your thirst for novelty. Your appetite too: the place is also full of artisanal products found by Jeannot. Lyon sausages, Corsican hams from the Figari area, cheeses matured in the cellar... Try "La planche selon l'humeur" (8 euros), composed of cold meats and seasonal products. A perfect accompaniment to wine... without ever stealing the spotlight from it!
