Covering the south and southwest face of the Mont de Bessay, the Juliénas vineyard is located in the extreme north of the Rhône department, bordering the Saône-et-Loire and the Mâconnais vineyards. Named after Julius Caesar and AOC since 1938, it is one of the first vineyards of the Beaujolais region and has developed since the Gallo-Roman period. The village of Julienas

Here, we are in the center of the village ofJuliénaslocated in the south of the appellation of the same name. The village owes its name to Julius Caesar himself. That's all!

I am standing in front of the old church which, as you can see, was transformed into a cellar in 1954. It was Victor Peyret, a winegrower and wine merchant, who initiated this project. At that time, he also worked a lot for the fame of the winesabout Juliénas winesby introducing them in Paris, notably to the journalists of the Canard Enchaîné.

The vineyard of the AOC Juliénas

Juliénas owes its reputation above all to the qualities of its wine, the grapes of which benefit from the sunny slopes of Mont de Bessay, in the north of the Beaujolais region.

The vines are thus cultivated on hillsides between 230 and 430 meters above sea level, on mostly poor and stony soils that produce small yields. The resulting grapes are rich and concentrated, giving structured and harmoniousred winesstructured and harmonious wines that can be kept for up to 10 years.
