Continuation of our trip to Santorini, a volcanic island where the Greeks had the crazy idea of making wine. We take you to one of the oldest industrial wine cellars on the island to taste the Vinsanto!
It is impossible not to mention Vinsanto, whose name comes from the indications on the boxes of ships leaving the island, from the Venetian period (Vino Santo), and not from the Italian denomination "vin saint" as it has often been said. The bunches are harvested late and then exposed to the sun on straw for several days. After vinification, this sweet sweet wine is kept in oak barrels for 24 months before bottling. Another remarkable aspect of this product is the total absence of chaptalization!

One of the oldest industrial wine cellars in Santorini is called Venetsanos. Contrary to the very touristic cellars, you will discover a unique site, built inside the cliff itself. A small museum, a huge tasting room, countless vats and corridors will amaze you. From the terraces overlooking the Caldeira, you will admire one of the most beautiful sunsets, tasting undoubtedly the best wines produced in Greece today: Assyrtiko, Nykteri, Vinsanto.
