After the winter numbness, Easter Monday marks the awakening of our senses; the days that lengthen, the buds that hatch, the bees that forage, the memories of children that invade us. A desire to be out in the open air, to wear colourful dresses, to enjoy life to the fullest!
Now that we have a good appetite after the Easter Monday egg hunt, what should we drink?
Once the chequered tablecloth is well installed, a bottle of Château de Fontenay, "Rangs de Pierre", AOP Touraine, comes out of the pretty wicker basket. A semi-dry Chenin that will accompany your aperitif on the grass, a quiche Lorraine or the traditional omelette.
A superb nose all in elegance: rose water, mirabelle plum, dried apricot, mineral. A fresh mouth, perfectly balanced, a beautiful length on spring notes.
An ample and crisp wine from the southern Côtes du Rhône, the AOP Rasteau, where Grenache Noir reigns supreme. The "La Ponce" cuvée from Domaine des Escaravailles expresses itself on typical aromas of blackberry jam, elderberry flower, black pepper. Its mouth is sunny, ample, fond, with a fine grain.
In a more powerful register, we go to the Faugères PDO with the Château de Ciffre and its "Terroirs d'Altitude", with an intense nose of jammy black cherries, roasting and vanilla notes. A dense, structured, opulent mouth.
Whether you are, rabbit, egg, casserole or chocolate bell, you will not be able to miss a Banyuls "Robert Pagès" from Domaine Madeloc. A nose of a frightening greediness; dried fig, candied orange, gingerbread. A palate in perfect adequacy, which unrolls notes of cocoa, melted tannins, an intoxicating opulence.
All we have to do now is cross our fingers that the good weather is here.
Happy Easter!
