Nicolas Meylan spent 17 years of his life making wine... but for others! Since 2012, he has been creating a wine close to his terroir of the Médoc, in the Bordeaux region, and to his personality. Today he tells us what he loves so much about the winemaking profession.
Graduated in oenology, I was bathed in wine from childhood thanks to my parents, true amateurs and sensitive to the poetry of this product. Discovering the world of agriculture, taking part in the magic of the transformation of grapes into wine and finally making multiple and rich encounters, this is why I love this job.
A Clos Rougeart, which combines finesse and complexity.
Winter, the only quiet period in the vineyards, for us, winemakers. I particularly like Sunday morning, when I go to prune the vines at daybreak with my dog: a unique and soothing moment.
I remain attentive to the smallest detail, producing his wine requires organization and rigour at all times. My sensitivity is also important: to let your emotions speak for my wine.
Or rather a reading:Taste and PowerI am always practicing. Or how a book can answer a personal question and convince me to develop an unconventional Médoc.
A peasant steward in the soul with whom I was lucky enough to work. Then respectively Cellar Master and Estate Manager, he not only gave me the taste to go into the vineyards but also taught me a working methodology and essential points of reference that I always put into practice.
People who have unshakeable certainties: what a pity in our profession!...
