Louis XIV was not born when the Fabre family started producing wine. Since then wine has flowed under the bridges of Corbières. Claire and Louis Fabre open the doors of Château de Luc to us today.
It is a true family tradition. My parents were winegrowers in the Minervois, those of Louis vignerons in the Corbières. At Château de Luc, we share a historical passion that dates back to 1605 and has existed for 15 generations. Today, it is transmitted in turn by father and grandfather Fabre. Also, each generation brings its stone to the edifice!
We are proud this year to have offered to the vines a very particular care validated by the obtaining of the level 3 of the label High Environmental Value. For example, we sow every 10 rows of vines with flowering strips of leguminous plants in order to favour the balance of the system and biodiversity. In 2014, we obtained the Organic Wine label for all our wines. Our approach has nothing to do with fashion, it goes back to the early 90's. We are concerned about preserving the environment, for the respect of the consumer and future generations.
Our favourite wine: a Château de Luc of course, because it is our history, the essence of our family, our couple, our children and our values. Together with Louis, we took up the crazy challenge of restoring this estate and this château, of raising our 5 children and our wine! It is the wine of our family's little history.
Our favourite time of the year: autumn, for the harvest. It is both a source of anguish and joy as we have worked all year for this final outcome. I also particularly like this period because it offers us a palette of colours and a time of appreciable softness. It's a joy!
We really privilege the relationship with our customers and visitors: it is a joy to transmit our daily work and the past of our castle, the richness of its stones and the people who have worked over the years to all this, to share our history with amateurs and curious people from all horizons!
If we had to share with you a small anecdote, it would be rather the story of a striking approach. We went to meet several villages and their schools to plant trees with the children. It was a very beautiful moment and a very nice action. The children became aware of the importance of nature. We are starting again next year this time with fruit trees, which the children will take care of and will be able to taste the fruits when the time comes!
On the other hand, there is one thing we can't stand in the world of wine... It's the producer groups that were initially created to help them, but which today are unfortunately undermining them through price and market wars. Many winegrowers have uprooted their vines in the region because they found themselves unable to make their production bear fruit. This is a historical, economic and ecological damage, especially to the garrigue.
