120 km long and 4 to 20 km wide, the Alsatian vineyard spreads over the departments of Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. It is renowned for its white and sparkling wines.

Discovering the wine region of Alsace

The vineyards of Alsace extend from the north of Wissembourg to the south of Leimbach. The vines grow on the slopes of the sub-Vosgian hills as well as in the plain of the Rhine.

The Vosges mountain range protects the region from the oceanic climate. Thus, the region benefits from a dry semi-continental climate with good sunshine and little rain. The autumn is generally beautiful and dry, the winter cold and the summer stormy and hot. Some parts of the vineyard also benefit from microclimates.

The wine routes of the Alsace region

To discover the wines of the Alsace region, why not take the wine route? The route through this wine-growing area starts in Marlenheim. You will then pass through Gertwiller, Scherwiller, Ribeauvillé and many other communes.

All along the wine route you will discover various wineries and monuments dedicated to wine culture. This is notably the case of the Maison "Au Péché Vigneron", a shop offering wine tourism activities throughout the year. The Domaine Achillée is also worth a visit. It has a bioclimatic wine storehouse allowing it to vinify its own products.

During your trip in the Alsace region, you will pass by Colmar which is the capital of Alsace wines. Your journey will continue in the direction of Eguisheim, Voegtlinshoffen and other stops to end in Thann. There you will find a vineyard where the entire production is classified as Grand Cru.

Some addresses for a visit of cellars in the Alsace region

Would you like to do a wine tasting of wines from the Alsace region? Locate the estates to visit on the wine route of the region. Here are some good addresses.

      The Domaine Horcher

The Domaine Horcher opens its doors to you in Mittelwihr between Riquewihr and Colmar. Handed down from generation to generation, this vineyard is respectful of nature. Applying ancestral production techniques, the estate has made a name for itself thanks to its wine products.

When you visit the estate, explore it and enjoy a tasting of wines from the Alsace region. On occasion, you will also learn how to match drinks with the right food.

      The Gustave Lorentz Estate

In Bergheim, you will discover the Domaine Gustave Lorentz. For generations, the winegrowers have been passing on their know-how to each other. Thus, the estate is distinguished by its products that are both powerful and subtle at the same time. Concerned about the environment, the owners of this place have been certified Organic Agriculture by Ecocert since 2012.

During your visit to this farm, you can visit the cellars of the Alsace region, followed by a product tasting. You will also have the opportunity to immediately taste the wines of the estate as soon as you arrive.

      The Dischler Estate

This vineyard is located in Wolxheim. It is known for its authentic drinks where sweetness, structure, finesse and elegance are perfectly harmonized. Exploiting the famous grape varieties of Alsace, the owners of the premises pay particular attention to the environment in their winemaking processes.

By stopping in this domain, you will be able to choose between two activities. It will be an opportunity to discover the vineyard, the work of the owner and the different techniques used to obtain quality drinks.

The owners of the estate also offer visitors a tasting of wines from the Alsace region. Thanks to their explanations and comments, you will know more about them.

Alsace is one of the essential stages of the Alsace wine route.

Among the main towns in Alsace are Colmar, Sélestat, Lingolsheim and Molsheim.
