The Domaine Boulachin Chaput is located in Arrentières, in the heart of a part of the vineyard which allows us to make visits "from the vine to the flute". Over the years, we have expanded our range of wines, which now includes 9 cuvées. We separate the parcels as much as possible during the pressing to have a wide range of wines for the blending. My favourite parcel is Dame Noire, one of the oldest, from which we make our very popular 100% Pinot Noir cuvée. Our subsoil is composed of limestone marl which brings minerality and "forces" the vine to give the best of itself: to express the maximum of aromas. We add organic supplements after soil analysis. We use grass to control yields, avoid rot and contain gullies. We only have vines on hillsides. Some plots are more difficult because they are steeper, with less space to turn over, very close ditches and systematically rainy weather to harvest them. My memories of the harvest come from my childhood with a good-natured atmosphere of regulars and festive evenings during 15 days.

Our story

The Boulachin Chaput brand was created in 1996. It is the addition of 2 names: Boulachin (father) and Chaput (mother) from long lines of illustrious winegrowers of the region (end of XVIIIth century). We strive every day to perpetuate this tradition with dignity by trying to make it known to as many people as possible. After a commercial career in Paris, I came back to help my parents at a time when sales were becoming increasingly difficult. I always wanted to return to my origins to perpetuate the family history. As winegrowers from father to son for 8 generations, we feel proud and charged with a mission: that of prolonging history.

Other little stories

Since I was 5 years old, our parents and grandparents have always taken us with them to the vineyards. Little by little, we took part in the work. We tasted the wines quite quickly and helped to make them. Being a winegrower means adapting to the climatic conditions, listening to the vines and the wine in order to offer ripe grapes and champagnes that resemble us. The wine that resembles me the most would be the Brut Nature, our last born without liqueur. It is simple, generous, with character and surprising. Michel Drappier is the person who inspires me, he is always one step ahead, successful but knows how to stay simple.

My earliest memory goes back to the first time I made red wine with my grandfather, with my bare legs to crush the grapes in the vat. Our champagnes are made from grapes that have reached good maturity. We work in a reasonable way with less yields, so the grapes are more expressive. We let them age on average 5 years, so we have generous and powerful champagnes. The world of wine is a world of exchange, of sensations, of conviviality and a priori of simplicity because we are farmers above all. There is too much snobbery in Champagne, people who have forgotten where they come from, that their parents or grandparents worked hard without often being able to live from it.
