The winemaker's pride
The commune of Maumusson is home to 40 hectares of Château Barrejat vines, which are almost 80 years old! The estate has been run by four generations, with Denis arriving in 1992. At the heart of the Madiran appellation, the estate has made a name for itself, collecting a number of medals and awards! The vines are worked in the traditional way, and since 1960, the estate has been grassed over. The soils are maintained using exclusively natural methods. Harvesting is done by hand, and yields are limited to 55 hl/ha. All these conditions add up to make great wines. In 1966, a structure was built to receive the grapes, along with an underground barrel cellar. In 1992, Denis Capmartin moved into the Château and produced 4 top-quality cuvées, which soon gained recognition. One of the cuvées on offer is an AOP Madiran Rouge, a very powerful wine with an intense color and many aromatic nuances, whatever the vintage. This wine is known for its good ageing potential, without needing complex vinification. The two grape varieties used for this wine are 60% Tannat and Cabernet. Pacherenc-du-Vic-Bihl is a second appellation produced by the region's winegrowers. Located in the heart of the Gers region, the vineyards practice and defend traditional viticulture.
