In the heart of the vineyards of the Aix-en-Provence region, the forests and valleys of Château Bas intertwine into as many climates and terroirs that are ideal for vine growing. From the dry clayey-limestone slopes sprinkled with sunshine, to the hollow of the shady and fresh valleys, the winegrower can combine know-how and intuition to recreate the rich palette of flavours and aromas of the Great Wines of Provence... Indissociable from the terroir, the Mistral from the Northwest, can suddenly transform this peaceful province of Aix into a tumultuous and glacial cauldron. The grapes gain health and concentration. The winegrower, if he can, will prefer to take shelter....

Our story

We have been in organic farming since 2010. Most of the soils are grassy. This grassing promotes the deep rooting of the vine, biodiversity and soil life. Biodiversity plays an important role in the nutrition of plants, in the way they resist climatic or biological aggression, we now call it: functional... that is to say, the idea of protecting the vine takes on a completely different nature... Each action practiced in the vineyard contributes to the protection of the vine, an unbalanced size, a too rich manure, a too bare soil, a too severe decimage modify the plant's balance.Think before you act, set up the conditions that will allow you... to avoid intervention... The most effective (and economical) treatment is the one you don't have to do, but if necessary, if the weather conditions are too extreme, the sulphate and powder will intervene without delay. This is another of the benefits of enherbem

Other little stories

The Castle, built on the site of a Gallo-Roman city, is not lacking in attractions; a successful mixture of rusticity and elegance, its park is worth a detour on its own... Originally it would seem that the castle had a semi-fortified appearance, built with its four corner towers on a terrace between the ancient temple and the current car park. It is proven that it was surrounded by a moat because there is mention of a movable bridge in an inventory of the De Damian family's property from the beginning of the 18th century, located at the eastern entrance to the castle, and there are many traces and references to developments directly related to these activities, presses with chapel from the 18th century, barrels, meadows, old olive groves, sheepfolds and stables. Today, the Château houses in its exceptional setting a renowned wine-growing estate that invites you to discover its monuments, among the most beautiful in the region, while walking around the castle, on the path leading to the temple, you can see the remains of the monolithic coping of an ancient well and the counterweight of a press from the same period. These blocks were marked by ploughs, traces that testify to their burial for several centuries.
