Château Bas d'Aumelas

Only 25 minutes from Montpellier, the Château Bas d'Aumelas estate produces wines from the Languedoc and Grés de Montpellier appellations. The highest estate in the appellation, we cultivate 20 hectares of vines in AB in a way that respects nature and the traditional methods of vinification of our terroir.

Here, we like to share with you our passion for wine and our love for nature and biodiversity. Château Bas is much more than a vineyard, it is also a 600-year-old building that has a history closely linked to that of the old castle of Aumelas.

Our story

The history of Château Bas d'Aumelas is a family history of 3 centuries. Built in the 14th century, erected as a castle in the 16th century, Château Bas d'Aumelas was resurrected by the passion of the two D'Albena brothers in 2001.

Plots after plots, they replant by hand the land of their ancestors. The emblematic Mediterranean grape varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Roussane and Viognier are grown on clayey-sandstone soils all around the château in organic farming, in an approach that is increasingly respectful of nature.

Today, 20 hectares of vines grow on the hillsides, with the aim of limiting yields and soil impoverishment. The old gestures are combined with the new winemaking methods, the harvest is done by hand, the winemaking is fragmented and the work in the cellar is as simple as possible.
