The 7 ha of vines of Château de La Mar are located in the heart of the Cru Marestel which represents the jewel of the Jongieux vineyard. Located on the slopes of Mont de la Charvaz, the vineyard benefits from an exposure and a microclimate provided by the Rhône, ideal for vine growing. Our vines are grassed and worked in sustainable agriculture with the greatest respect for the environment. Harvesting is manual to ensure a rigorous selection of our grapes. Our 3 Marestel vintages are classified as AOC Roussette de Savoie Cru Marestel and vinified from l'Altesse. We also cultivate the Mondeuse and Jacquère grape varieties, typical of Savoie.
The first traces of the existence of the Château de la Mar date back to 1244. Lords succeed one another leaving their names to many valleys and hills around... In the 17th century, the "de la Mar" family settled there, restored and enlarged the Château and the estate. The current owners acquired the 2009 Château and modernized the equipment used for cultivation and winemaking. Today, the estate is exclusively wine-growing and Château de la Mar also offers guest rooms, a gourmet table d'hôtes and a tasting cellar.
In 1432, Claude de Mareste imported a grape variety from Cyprus called "samos" there. He gave it the name of Highness and began to build the estate. Today, the Marestel wine bears this name in homage to the Count who brought this grape variety back to the Savoyard region.
