The Domaine du Château de Nervers, 50km north of Lyon, is composed of 45 hectares of vines at the foot of Mont Brouilly. The Beaujolais wine region, 100% Gamay, was awarded the UNESCO GEOPARK label in April 2018. We also work 10 hectares in Beaujolais and Beaujolais-villages, the vines are on average 50 years old, except for the oldest plot that was replanted just after the Phylloxera crisis (it is almost 140 years old). They grow on rock, clay, which gives us structured and spicy wines, the harvest is largely manual and we are starting a Terra Vitis and High Environmental Value certification work... on the way to tomorrow!
Formerly a hunting lodge, Château de Nervers has been a family winery for almost 200 years. Six generations have succeeded each other, until Jean-Benoît and Tiphaine, current managers. We combine tradition and modernity by valuing what makes up our history and inventing what will be our future. For the first time in its history, the Domaine is run by a couple who take care of their vines from planting to consumption!
Jean-Benoît, 34 years old, fell into a barrel when he was a child, took over the family estate in 2012. He immediately embarked on modernization and diversification... since then, there has been no shortage of projects! He is at the same time manager, winegrower, boss (about ten people work with us in the vineyard), cellar master, winemaker, at the office... and happy father! Tiphaine, 32, married in 2017 to her JB, quickly made her mark and orchestrated the reception of tourists at the Domaine. She is also behind her screen to publish, share, enjoy... of course, in administrative and positive support! The terroir of the Nervers valley offers us particularly tannic wines (and therefore... for ageing!) in the heart of the Cru Brouilly. Our job as winegrowers and winemakers makes us beginners with each harvest: what does Nature give me this year? What do our grapes have to say to us?
