My parents, Max and Astrid de Pourtalès, have a crush on Château Doyac, a cru bourgeois in Haut-Médoc, where they settled in 1998. The 27 hectare vineyard, almost in one piece, is located on the clay-limestone part of the commune of Saint Seurin de Cadourne. It is composed of beautiful hills and slight slopes facing south with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. With an average age of 20 years, these vines planted on a mainly calcareous soil bring the freshness and finesse that are typical of great Bordeaux wines.
I, Clémence de Pourtalès, their daughter, after having obtained my degree in Oenology in Bordeaux in 2015, I decided after harvesting in New Zealand to return to the family estate in 2016. We then began a total conversion of the vineyard to organic viticulture and biodynamics.
We are fortunate to work with Eric Boissenot and Marco Balsimelli who advise us throughout the harvest and blending process. Max created a pizzeria for his friends in the tasting room and Astrid developed wine tourism on the property by opening two gites.
