(33) Gironde

My parents, Max and Astrid de Pourtalès, had a crush on Château Doyac, a cru bourgeois from the Haut-Médoc, where they settled in 1998. The vineyard of 28 hectares, almost in one piece, is located on the clay-limestone part of the commune of Saint Seurin de Cadourne. It is composed of beautiful hilltops and slight south-facing slopes with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. With an average age of 20 years, these vines planted on a predominantly limestone terroir provide the freshness and finesse typical of the great wines of Bordeaux. We have recently planted a new grape variety, Cabernet Franc, which will eventually account for about 20% of the vineyard.

Our story

I, Clémence de Pourtalès, their daughter, after graduating as an Oenologist in Bordeaux in 2015, decided after a harvest in New Zealand to return to the family estate in 2016. We then began a total conversion of the vineyard to organic and biodynamic viticulture. The 2018 vintage is certified organic and the 2019 vintage is certified organic dynamic Demeter.

Other little stories

We are fortunate to work with Eric Boissenot and Marco Balsimelli who advise us throughout the harvest and blending. Max has created a pizzeria in the tasting room for his friends and Astrid has developed wine tourism on the estate by opening a gîte and offering wine tasting visits by appointment.
