Château Famaey is made of stone buildings that form a traditional wine production unit. The cellar has been modernized, while respecting the local architectural style. Luc Luyckx and Marc Van Antwerpen, two Flemish Belgians passionate about Cahors wine, acquired the Château in 2000 (wine estate since 1850) and named it "Château Famaey". This family and dynamic company, with the reputation of "Cahors Modernes", producing fine wines and honouring the fruit and freshness of Malbec, has been the subject of several "coups de coeur" and multiple awards in the press and in national and international competitions.

Our story

Château Famaey is first of all the story of Luc and Marc, two courageous Belgians and childhood friends who share the same dream, that of producing a wine from a rich terroir in the magnificent Cahors region. The dream came true when they became owners of this 35-hectare vineyard, located on the 2nd and 3rd sunny terraces of the Lot Valley. To these two sidekicks was added Maarten, Luc's son. This paternal passion was passed on, wearing the cellar master's jacket. Château Famaey exports its wines to more than 25 countries around the world.

Other little stories

Château Famaey is a family estate that works in a traditional spirit, combined with a modern infrastructure. The work of the vine and the ageing of the wine, guided by a philosophy based on respect for nature, limits the use of additives and chemicals as much as possible, in order to obtain the most natural wine possible. The bottling at the château, in accordance with the terroir, guarantees the authenticity of a unique cahors, with an excellent quality/price ratio. We produce red wines (mainly Malbec) with the Cahors PDO appellation, but also whites, reds and rosés with the Côtes du Lot PGI appellation.

We invest constantly and gradually in the vineyard and the property in order to maintain the quality of our wine and improve production and storage conditions. This is encouraging because we are pleased to face the growing evolution of our activities. We have also built two charming and full of character cottages, located in the heart of the vineyards, to enhance our wine tourism activity.
