Located at the top of hills, our property overlooks the Dropt Valley, straddling two departments. In Lot et Garonne, surrounded by our plum trees orchards, we produce AOC Cotes de Duras red and white. The vines in Gironde are AOC Bordeaux. The calves of the cyclists painfully remember the ascent of the small road that leads to the gates of our farm. Our soils are clay-limestone. But the rock is not far below the soft ground and on some plots we find very easily ammonites and fossil oysters as soon as we work the land. The oak woods are not far away, and at the end of the row of vines, if the desire takes us, in autumn, Girolles and Cèpes will decorate the lunch.
My parents, originally from Veneto in northern Italy, arrived with their families in the southwest in 1925. My father was one year old, my mother six months old. After their marriages, they came as servants on this property. Hard workers, saving the slightest penny to buy it in the 1960s. It should be remembered that at the beginning, they did not own a tractor, and that all the work in the vineyard was manual. At their retreats, they took their first weeks of vacation. In 1984, we took over the vines and plum trees and expanded the farm. My parents, Maria and Cyril continued to help us as much as they could.
Every year, a new adventure begins. Winter, pruning, folding in the rain. Then the first shoots arrive in spring, will the weather be nice? Spreading and lifting, we monitor the insect and diseases. At the end of summer it's where it all comes down to. Every day, we visit each vineyard plot to see if maturity has been reached. Then, it is the harvest first the Sauvignon, then the Merlot, and finally the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cabernet Franc. But the work is not finished! Then there is the work in the cellar, the monitoring of fermentations, the pumping over. We get up at night to make sure that the tanks do not overflow. In December, the vats finished fermenting a long time ago, making way for strategic choices: this Merlot, if we add a little of this Cabernet Franc to age in our barrels, is it the best blend? We taste and think. Then there is the bottling. We take care of everything, from the vine to the sale. From the beginning, we decided to develop direct sales. But it's not just a business. It is with great pleasure that we welcome the visitor, always curious about the encounter of cultures and universes very different from ours. Wine is a vector of friendship and conviviality. We are motionless travellers.
We don't have a big castle or a big winery. You will just find authentic and simple people, who live their profession with passion despite the problems and hazards of life. And that's also, thanks to you. Our vines are located in the middle of the border between Lot-et-Garonne and Gironde.
