Although Hervé took over this right bank estate at the end of the 1990s, he still benefits from the precious advice of his parents, who were the managers for nearly 50 years. In the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, he is one of the last to make wines for aging in the manner of the grands crus. This choice has paid off as he is considered as a rising star in the region. His work is constantly rewarded, as his 2010 vintage, greeted by a 17/20 by the Revue du Vin de France and a star in the Guide Hachette.
Our story is a story of the land! It is a passion that has been passed down from father to son, and which is always guided by nature.
Our family property, Château Fleur Haut Gaussens, is located on the right bank of Bordeaux near Fronsac and has belonged to my family for over four generations. With more than 100 years of experience between them, my parents Pierre and Nicole, provide daily advice and perpetuate tradition and know-how, while with a more visionary spirit, I bring originality and modernity. The result is an atypical range of wine, which is off the beaten track and which mixes originality with personality, quality, precision and regularity.
In the cellar, we work in a traditional way, but with a modern vision. Château Fleur Haut Gaussens is one of the last Bordeaux Supérieurs to make wines for aging, like the Grands Crus. Thus our wine can evolve over time without losing its character. We are in favor of a slow and gentle parcel-based vinification that adapts to the vintage and is different for each vintage. Each parcel is treated in separate vats to keep the identity of the terroir and the grape variety.
Being a winegrower is more than a profession, it is a way of life. A know-how, knowledge, daily gestures, a way of thinking, a way of seeing things, that's all that we bottle. Each wine has its own identity and originality.
When I took over the queens of the family estate in the late 1990s, the trend was to produce wines in bulk. I was the first to bottle all my production and innovate with modern and timeless packaging. Even today I still recommend trends. Our Malbec cuvée "La Viminière" (released in September 2016) will be the first on the market of its kind! To be continued...
