Located 15 kilometres from Bordeaux, Château Fonchereau is a former noble house of Château Lamothe. Traditionally, production has been very varied. The vines are all in one piece, surrounded by a forest that protects them and enjoys a microclimate that prevents hail and frost. Slightly sloping and composed of clayey gravel, the soil facilitates rainwater drainage. The grape varieties are 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc for the red vines (28 hectares) and Semillon for the white vines (2 hectares).
Going back in time, Château Fonchereau depended as a noble house on Château Lamothe, it belonged to the President of the Bordeaux Parliament; Gilles Geneste, then Jean Talartry, Guyenne's treasurer of finance. Many personalities followed, such as Chevalier François de Cursol, or Dame de Guimps, Montaigne's cousin. The castle was even a place of resistance during the Second World War. In 2006, Alfredo acquired the estate and became the first winegrower in Latin America in France.
For us, the management of a vineyard is similar to that of a garden where we respect the terroir and practice rational viticulture.
I represent the first winegrower in Latin America in France!
