Château La Croix-Davids has its vines located on one of the highest plateaus of the appellation, on a clayey-limestone soil. Due to its good exposure, the estate enjoys exceptional sunshine. The average age of the vineyard is 50 years. The vinification of the wines is done in the traditional way with a long maceration (about 3 weeks) to extract as much tannins and fruit as possible. The wines are aged in barrels. The grape varieties of the vineyard are composed of a dominant Merlot, associated with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
Château La Croix-Davids was bought by the Cavignac-Birot family, the current owners, at the end of the French revolution. It is therefore many winegrowers who preceded Annie Birot-Meneuvrier and who have been able to transmit the ancestral know-how accumulated over the generations. Today, Louis Meneuvrier cultivates the vineyard with a tradition of quality, without sacrificing anything to the myth of technology. This vineyard is typical of the Côtes de Bourg appellation.
The history of La Croix-Davids could be summed up in a few words: work, humility, determination... But it is a much more complex story that leads me today to perpetuate the work of my ancestors in a logic of maintaining a know-how, and respect for a homogeneous terroir, unchanging over the years. My project was born from the desire to bring together the technological advances of a modern world and the intrinsic requirements of viticulture.
Our estate does not live only at the rhythm of its vineyard. In his residency, he receives many talented artists at Espace La Croix-Davids in the heart of the village of Bourg. Their energy feeds the "La Croix-Davids" universe, inspires the elaboration of its wine and enriches our offer of cultural events.
