Château l'Hospitalet is located on the La Clape nature reserve, an ancient island in Gallo-Roman times. The estate has more than 1,000 hectares, 82 of which are planted with vines. In the middle of this terroir and garrigue, the vineyard is protected from the vagaries of nature by a cliff. Gérard, who heads fifteen other estates in the South of France, is convinced that sea spray has a real impact on the taste of his wines. Since 2013, he has been managing his vineyard according to the specifications imposed by biodynamics. White as well as red, Hospitalet's wines are balanced and clearly focused on fruit. The Great Red Wine is made from the most beautiful parcels of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. The juices are vinified separately and then blended. After spending a year in barrels, the juices are bottled. They are bottled according to the lunar calendar as the biodynamic rhythm requires. The white wines are the result of a blend of Bourdonlenc, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. About 70% of the juices are aged in barrels and the rest in vats.

Our story

The estate is located in a magnificent location: we overlook the Mediterranean and are in the middle of the La Clape massif. The farm was created in the 13th century and at the same time hosted the Hospices de Narbonne. Gérard Bertrand acquired the estate in 2002. He sees in this place the opportunity to share the art of living and Mediterranean culture: works of art, gastronomy and history are at the heart of the project, and Gérard then opens a 3-star hotel, a restaurant and a tasting cellar. It pursues its goal by creating a wide range of wine tourism products. Annually, in the summer, he even organizes a jazz festival on the property. With all these projects, he uses the motto used in the past by the estate's managers: "sine vino, vana hospitalitas" (without wine, vain is hospitality).
