We are a family estate nestled for three generations at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the south-east of the Rhône Valley. Exactly at the same latitude as Châteauneuf-du-Pape but at an average altitude of 300 to 350 m, we enjoy a cooler microclimate, the latest in the southern Rhône Valley, which gives our wines freshness and balance. Limestone is a major element of our terroir, like the summit of Mont Ventoux, our "Montagne Chauve", which deploys a lunar landscape: it supports the elegance and minerality of our blends.
The history of our family and that of our Appellation are closely linked. Our grandparents, Odette and René Bastide took over the estate in 1971 two years before the creation of the AOC. Our parents, Paul & Edith Chaudière, began integrated agriculture in the 1980s and a selection approach to the terroir which was particularly innovative at the time. Today, my brother Alexandre and I (Frédéric) also work in organic agriculture and we intend to certify the entire estate in the coming years. The terroir of the Ventoux has only just begun to reveal its secrets and despite the 45 years that have gone by, we still live like explorers!
My brother and I find ourselves in Obelix's situation: we fell into it when we were still very small... But to tell the truth, the winegrower's job is so complex that it certainly takes two of us to start making one good winegrower! We are constantly listening and exchanging ideas with winegrowers from the Ventoux, the Rhone Valley but also from other regions of France and the world. The double happiness of making and loving wine is both to be deeply rooted in our terroir, while travelling a lot and sometimes very far!
We welcome you all year round to the estate and are keen to help you discover the riches of our terroir. With family or friends, for a picnic in the park or for a guided tour, don't hesitate to come and meet us when you pass through the Ventoux region!
