We are a family estate nestled for three generations at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the south-east of the Rhône Valley. Exactly at the same latitude as Châteauneuf-du-Pape but at an average altitude of 300 to 350 m, we enjoy a cooler microclimate, the latest in the southern Rhône Valley, which gives our wines freshness and balance. Limestone is a major element of our terroir, like the summit of Mont Ventoux, our "Montagne Chauve", which deploys a lunar landscape: it supports the elegance and minerality of our blends.
The history of our family and that of our Appellation are very closely linked. Our grandparents, Odette and René Bastide, took over the estate in 1971 two years before the creation of the AOC. Our parents, Paul & Edith Chaudière, started sustainable agriculture in the 1980s and an approach to terroir selection that was particularly innovative at the time. Today in organic agriculture, my brother Alexandre and I (Frédéric) are experimenting with biodynamics and intend to convert the entire estate in the coming years. The Ventoux region has only just begun to reveal its secrets and despite the 45 years that precede us, we still live like explorers!
We find ourselves in the same situation as Obelix: we fell into it when we were still very young... But to tell you the truth, the winegrower's job is so complex that it certainly takes two people to start making one good winegrower! We are constantly listening and exchanging with winegrowers from the Ventoux, the Rhône Valley and other regions of France and the world. The double happiness of making and loving wine is both to be very rooted in our terroir, while travelling a lot and sometimes very far away!
We have just renovated our cellar and the entire reception area of the cellar (even offering the possibility of organising seminars): wine tourism and welcoming visitors to the estate are extremely important to us. So come and visit us, picnic in the gardens of the Château, explore our cellar, taste our wines and above all discover the wonderful terroir of the Ventoux!
