At Château Picoron, we explore the potential of Merlot. Our wines are made from grapes in conversion to organic farming and vinified with as few inputs and interventions as possible, using a plot division system. With the help of Stephane Derenoncourt, our incredible team, Glenda & Frank and their family invite you to think and taste Bordeaux wines differently.

Our story

Our wines are made from plot selections and are not blended. They are the reflection of a specific place: the famous clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion. We produce only a few hundred cases. The result is a unique expression of our terroir. We believe that nature is our best ally. When it comes to producing wines we believe that less is more: less additives, less intervention, we do not try to change what nature gives us. Our wines are produced in a sustainable way, in conversion to Organic Agriculture, without animal products and with minimal interventions. By challenging traditional winemaking techniques through creativity, we produce wines that are like us. We make handcrafted wines that celebrate the past while inspiring the next generation. Winemaking at our estate began 2000 years ago and has been carried on by the Picoron family since 1570, and since 2015 Glenda & Frank Kalyk and our Australian family have continued this legacy by celebrating the past and future of the Bordeaux region. At Chateau Picoron, we don't replicate, we innovate. We do not seek to be compared, but to produce wines that are in our image, to be shared with friends and family. We experiment, we create. Our wines are a unique expression of Merlot, inspired and not constrained by traditional winemaking techniques. By breaking the codes, we have found the freedom to invent and bring out the full potential of the Merlot grape.

Other little stories

"We celebrate the past and future of Merlot, the first grape variety planted in Bordeaux. However, we must adapt to climate change. Therefore, we do not seek to control our ecosystem, but instead adapt to it."
