A Burgundy estate on the right bank of Bordeaux: what a challenge! Thanks to meticulous work, a Burgundian experience and sometimes risk-taking, Edouard Labruyère and his family have established themselves in the Bordeaux region. While using local grape varieties, the Labruyère family has been able to produce wines worthy of the most prestigious wine-growing region in France while preserving the finesse of Burgundy wines. Challenge taken up!
Anecdotes about the domain
Successive generations of Labruyère have always been very attached to the traditional values of family and work. We are particularly committed to mastering the entire wine value chain, owning our vines and farming in an environmentally friendly manner. Château Rouget 2012 was a great success for us despite a difficult vintage. We knew how to be patient and showed a lot of self-sacrifice both in the vineyard and in the cellar. By taking risks during the vinification, we made a wine that resembles us: the Burgundian finesse through Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The domain's short story
In love with the great French and Burgundian terroirs of origin and heart, we did not choose Pomerol by chance. This Appellation, by the configuration of its parcels, is certainly the most Burgundian of the Bordeaux PDOs. Château Rouget is a haute-couture estate in Bordeaux, basing all its work on the parcel approach. It was not easy in 1992 to get the Bordeaux community to accept the arrival in the vineyard of a Burgundian owner. But as always, work paid off. Over the years, we have proven our ability to produce very great wines and very great representatives of this magnificent wine region of France, the Bordeaux region.
The winemaker's pride
Known and recognized notably in the 19th century, Château Rouget nevertheless became dormant during the 20th century. In 1992, our family, originally from Mâcon, decided to reawaken its terroirs by investing in modern and sustainable viticulture, but also by importing its knowledge of Burgundian wine-making.
