The domain's short story
1952. Two hundred years after its construction by the Marquis de Viella, the château still dominates its vineyards, but it's been a long time since the shutters concealed life behind the high windows. My family acquired it and the surrounding vineyards in 1991. I take over from my father and build my own definition of wine, restoring the Château to its former glory. 2017. My daughters, Claire and Marion, have grown up with the Château like a banner above their heads. They return to my side to become the 4th generation of winemakers at Château de Viella, and together, we entrust you with the definition of our wines: charged with our experience, the listening of our plots and the understanding of our grape varieties. Alain Bortolussi
The winemaker's pride
Since the middle of the 20th century, the Bortolussi family has owned this vineyard comprising 25 hectares of vines classified as AOP Madiran (20ha) and Pacherenc du Vic Bilh (5ha). It produces wines that are both concentrated and fine, with a wonderful mouthfeel and total respect for the fruit. Knowing one's terroir, listening to the vines, not resigning oneself to following practices without questioning... this long-standing commitment for the Bortolussi family was confirmed in 2020 with the start of the transition to Organic Agriculture for the entire vineyard.
