Fascinated by the land, I decided at the age of 15 to leave urban life and take up the history of the estate where my ancestors had left it. Once my studies were over, I took over about 5 hectares in 2006 to create the CLOS de MEZ. The vines have been in my mother's family for five generations but the grapes were delivered to the cooperative cellar by my grandmother and my mother.Le CLOS de MEZ is the contraction of my name Marie-Elodie Zighera and covers two appellations: Fleurie and Morgon. The estate is now run in organic farming and is gradually tending towards biodynamic farming...
During my studies, I chose my internships according to my history: the first one in Moulin-à-Vent to learn about Gamay, the second one in Côtes du Rhône with a winegrower now working in Biodynamics, who left the cooperative cellar to make her own wine and the last one in Côte de Nuits to tame the whole harvest, with a single grape variety and on a surface equal to mine. It was 2003 and I was thinking to myself while vinifying Clos Vougeot that the vibration would never be as great at home! Then there was this professional tasting of a century of Beaujolais in 2004 to which I had been invited. A Fleurie 1976 and a Morgon 1911 will convince me of the great potential of my terroirs. This awareness gave me confidence in my appellations and my grape variety. She has been carrying me since 2006 in my quest for excellence. Since my first vintage I have had the ambition to make wines with high definition and strong personality like this 1911 Morgon which has been able to rival a grand cru from the Côte de Nuits.
