Le Clos Sauvage is an organic wine estate in Southern Burgundy (Leynes). Located on 4 hectares in Beaujolais village, Saint Amour, Saint Veran and white Burgundy, we produce red wine, white wine, white wine ...Lire plus Learn more
Our young family settled in 2019 in Leynes, on the borders of Beaujolais and Burgundy. We have taken over 4ha of forgotten vineyards, surrounded by dry stone walls and forests at an altitude of 450m. Our vines are all on hillsides: Gamay on granite soil for our Beaujolais-Leynes and Saint Amour cru vines, Chardonnay on clayey-limestone soil for our Bourgogne Blanc and Saint Véran. We grow and vinify organically.
Both from the North of France, and not coming from wine-growing families, we lived for several years in Toulouse, where David learned the trade and passed his oenology diploma. After a year of peregrination in the vineyards of France, we were lucky enough to find a place that corresponded to our aspirations, on the border of Burgundy and Beaujolais. We are perched on the top of a hill at an altitude of 450m with a breathtaking view of the Saône valley. Le Clos is surrounded by chestnut forests, dry stone walls, natural springs and moors. We take advantage of this preserved place in the heart of nature and which lends itself perfectly to the conduct of organic farming. This former estate was organic for 15 years but was abandoned for a few years. We have restructured the vines around the house (by pulling up a large part of them) and we are gradually replanting with Gamay and maybe tomorrow other grape varieties. Meeting after meeting, we found a plot of Saint Amour, then white Burgundy and finally a small piece of Saint Véran (to be planted). A new page is being written at Le Clos Sauvage and we are very happy to be part of it happily.
Why the Clos Sauvage? When we arrived, the old vines of the Clos Sauvage were abandoned, in a wild state... Today, we are working hard to tame them on 4 hectares. At the same time, we are replanting little by little on small islands in order to express the specificities of our "climates" in our wines. And our logo ? two plane trees in the middle of our courtyard are naturally united by a common branch. Our deep anchorage to the place, the sincere meeting of a terroir and its winegrowers, the unity of our family... Quite a symbol!
