The estate is located in the heart of the Fiefs-Vendéens-Pissotte appellation, a vineyard steeped in history. The First Fiefs (lands dependent on abbeys) date back to the 19th century. Rabelais sang the virtues of Vendée wines but it was mainly Richelieu who contributed to their fame: Thus the fiefs were named after the Cardinal's former Fiefs.
The Vendée flows at the foot of the vineyard, which consists of 24 hectares on the Pissotte terroir. The mainly clayey-siliceous soil allows the production of fresh and fine wines. Our wines reflect the typical character of the terroir. This family estate is passed down from generation to generation, but the values remain unchanged: tradition, balance, respect for nature.
In terms of production, rosé wines represent half of the total annual production, red wines 20%, and white wines 30%. For the whites we mainly assemble chenin and chardonay. For the reds we use cabernet franc and sauvignon but also négrette. For the
rosé we use Gamay.
Our estate can receive up to 3000 visitors each year.
After the post-war period, agriculture in our region turned to cereal cultivation or livestock farming. We are then the only family of winegrowers of this micro appellation since 1895. We are therefore the fifth generation of the Domaine.
The Fiefes-Vendéens-Pissotte appellation has been a controlled appellation since 2011. Fief determined the parcels that depended on abbeys. After 20 years of parcel delimitations and files, the Vendée Fiefs obtained the final recognition for their efforts on 10 February this year: the AOC Fiefs Vendéens, with 5 possible areas:
- Mareuil- Brem- Chantonnay- Vix-
These are fresh, fruity, light and spring white, rosé and red wines to drink at any time... From now on, the estate is in organic conversion, because we want to work according to the natural balances.
In the village of Pissote you will find a place steeped in history, a unique terroir and a single winegrower-grower: We the Coirier estate!
