In the heart of the Enclave des Papes, in the southern Rhône Valley, Domaine de l'Argentière, owned by Vignobles Denis Cave, is located in the Côtes du Rhône Villages Cru Visan appellation. 1344, a papal land since 1344, Visan draws from this rich past, its belonging to this very particular territory: a piece of Vaucluse, isolated in the middle of the Drôme provençale, called the Enclave des Papes. Pin d'Alep, lavender, truffle and vineyard, offer to this landscape, its beautiful feminine curves, the Visan vineyard, with a climate of Mediterranean influence modified under the influence of the Mistral, is classified Côtes du Rhône Villages communal, since 1966. Planted on stony red clay-limestone soils, our vineyard gives pride of place to Grenache, but the vines surrounding us also offer beautiful days to Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre. These four grape varieties give onto this northern terroir, reds imbued with finesse and elegance, on the nose, they evoke charming aromas borne by red fruits such as spices and are enriched with mineral notes characteristic of their personality. these sweet wines hold the top spot, but leave a small place for rosés and whites in the range ( to be discovered very soon!) From the oldest Grenache vines, located on pebble and rocky hillsides, yields are naturally low, not exceeding 25 hl/ha; it is from these vines on hillsides facing Mont Ventoux that Denis works his vines by tractor-tracks to challenge the slopes of up to 30%.The wines of Argentière draw their personality, and their minerality from a natural environment, from vines on sloping hillsides, terroirs of pebbles, truffle oaks, old vines of Grenache, Carignan and Syrah, this natural setting reveals balanced wines with a tense fruitiness.
Today Denis Cave, perpetuates the family winegrower tradition, and since 2000 has been converting the 27 hectares of vines on the estate according to the principles of organic farming. With the 2015 vintage, it is the beginning of a new winegrowing adventure for the Cave family: the grapes are no longer delivered to the village cooperative; the future vinifications will be ensured by Stéphanie, Denis' eldest daughter, after her rich experience as an oenologist in the four corners of the world, Chile, Australia and New Zealand.
We are delighted to embark on this winegrower's adventure to share the fruit of our work and the blood of our land. Only 15,000 bottles of our first vintage 2015 have been bottled, that's a lot and little at a time!... Our most beautiful reward are your opinions, and when you love, and when you ask for more! Thank you to all the aficionados of Domaine de L'Argentière!
