For us, being a winemaker means having the pleasure of working in the open air, this feeling of freedom... It is the pleasure of working with a living plant, and of transforming the fruits it gives us. For us, being a winegrower also means opening our doors, welcoming and sharing with our customers around a tasting, around a vine stock...
The domain's short story
Forty years ago, Jean-Claude, our father, discovered that the terroir of his parents' estate would lend itself well to the vinification of wines for drinking and not only wines for distillation. Passionate about wine, he finished his viticulture-oenology studies and embarked on the adventure of direct sales, bottled his first harvest and set out to meet the region's restaurateurs and wine merchants to promote his wines. Today, we continue the adventure, with the same passion and know-how that our father passed on to us. It is an intergenerational adventure since Michel, our grandfather, still helps with the harvest and bottling. We do not intend to let Jean-Claude abandon his vineyards when he retires!
The winemaker's pride
The domain of Poncereau de Haut is atypical for the region, since they produce neither Pineau des Charentes nor Cognac! Only Charentais Wines vinified with passion and know-how for more than 40 years. Numerous grape varieties (a dozen) are grown together on a sandy-silt soil which allows them to obtain powerful and aromatic wines.
