We are located in Maury, 35 minutes from Perpignan. We have chosen to work the vines at altitude, between 300 and 500m. These hillsides, rather low in yields, give our wines a lot of freshness and a very good ageing potential. This is why we choose to offer wines that have already aged for several years. We are located in the heart of the Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon villages, and Maury appellations.
It all starts with a story of friendship. The kind of crazy idea that comes up over a drink: "Why don't we buy some vines and make our own wine together? A few weeks later, the wheels were in motion. As passionate oenophiles and wine connoisseurs, the group of friends chose to settle in the Roussillon, a terroir with great potential but little known to the general public. The Domaine de Vénus was created at the end of 2002, with the acquisition of the first plots. Soon, buoyed by the quality of its wines, the domaine purchased new plots in the magical Fenouillèdes terroir, high above the Vallée de l'Agly (Vallée de l'Aigle in Catalan).
No good wine without beautiful grapes. Laurent Abet, our vineyard manager, patiently works our high-altitude slopes to obtain the best possible grapes. He led the estate's conversion to organic farming. The 2019 vintage marks the estate's first 100% organic harvest, and while Laurent is in the vineyard, his wife Nathalie is in the cellar. Our aim is to produce generous wines, faithful to their terroir, but always easy to digest. Because we often tend to drink wines too young, Domaine de Vénus has chosen to offer ready-to-drink wines. Our specificity is to practice long maturation in bottle, when our high altitude terroir begins to impregnate the wine.
