Vines have existed on the estate for 6 centuries! They benefit from an exceptional climate that protects from the Mistral and an altitude that gives the wine freshness and maturity. The soil is composed of blue and calcareous marl, allowing the production of distinguished, mineral and elegant wines. The vineyard is worked in a sustainable way with a measured intervention so that the soil can express the quintessence of the terroir. The precursor grape variety of the estate is Grenache, which gives the wines of Bosquets their typical character. It is blended with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, which bring aromatic diversity, structure and ageing potential. The yields are low (25 Hl/Ha) and only the most beautiful bunches are used to make the wine.
We found notary records indicating the existence of "vinea culta" in 1376 at the place called "Les Bosquets" in Gigondas. It was there that Jean de Rivière, Lord of Laval, made the first building of the Domaine. Several emblematic personalities followed one another like Eugène Raspail who allowed the estate to develop from 1861 onwards. 100 years later, Gabriel Meffre brought his innovative vision to the estate. Since then, our family has been a family estate. In 1987, Sylvette took over the property. His son then joined him. They have created a new cellar in the shape of a Provençal chapel. Finally, in 2006, I took over the estate.
Between us, we often say that the domaine des Bosquets, "it's the beauty of sleeping woods, but she doesn't sleep anymore...".
We select the best grapes for the production of our wines, whose grapes are gently treated using gravity. This weight work is used to carry out a gentle and progressive extraction. The duration in the tank can vary and last longer for a higher complexity and finesse.
