Domaine des Noëls enjoys an ideal geographical location, on the heights of the Coteau des Noëls in Bellevigne-en-Layon, overlooking the Layon River. It is hard to imagine a more explicit name for a commune, which requires us to take particular care of our vines and to produce a sweet nectar that is representative of the Layon Valley. The main grape variety planted on the Coteau des Noëls is Chenin Blanc, which allows us to produce our Anjou Blanc as well as our Coteaux du Layon, which is soft or sweet. The latter represent the heart of the estate's production, but the range of wines on the estate is much wider since we also offer Cabernet d'Anjou, dry rosés, red Anjou and white or rosé Crémants de Loire... All that remains to be tasted!
The vineyard has been part of the family for 4 generations, and often it is a transmission from father to son. Not this time, since Jean-Michel married the estate's daughter and took over the vineyard in 1996 following stepfather. Over the years, he has been able to develop the activity and has taken the opportunity to expand the field.
Our know-how allows us to adapt our cultivation methods to the best of our ability, in order to produce quality wines, while respecting and preserving our soils and our environment as much as possible.
In 2019, we obtained the H.V.E. certification: High Environmental Value level 3/3. This aims to enhance the value of production from agricultural holdings that voluntarily engage in environmentally friendly
approaches.
It certifies that the elements of biodiversity (hedges, grass strips, trees, flowers, insects, etc.) are very widely present on the farm and that the pressure of agricultural practices on the environment (air, climate, water, soil, biodiversity, landscapes, etc.) is reduced to a minimum.
Being a winegrower is above all the pleasure of combining the wine-growing soil with the qualitative production of wines. A cross between knowledge of the land and mastery of the winemaking process for a continuous adaptation of our know-how between tradition and modernity. Every day we observe the development of our vines, which, with the help of Mother Nature, know how to offer us the best. There is no better way than to come to the cellar to share with you the secrets that the vines hold. But it is also important to meet the lovers of our beautiful vintages, who are more and more curious every year and have the pleasure of discovering the new vintages, the little nuggets that we have in store for them, on show or during deliveries.
But where does the name Domaine des Noëls come from? Don't think that we are playing on words, there is a meaning behind the domain name, it's not a marketing or seasonal idea! Everything is linked to the particularity of our hillside and the characteristics of its subsoil, which is full of water (valley hillside), allowing our vines to develop the best grapes all year round. From old French people and over the generations, the valleys have been transformed into Christmas, registered as a locality, to give even more particularity to our wines.
When you think of Layon Valley, you tend to think only of sweet and syrupy wines, whereas we have a whole range of wines to show you, which can be tasted all year round, not just during the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is the advantage of the soils of our beautiful region, which accept multiple grape varieties in order to offer you all the colours of wine in one place.
The pleasure of this profession is the permanent evolution of the landscape every morning, but which can sometimes turn out to be playful when late frosts endanger the new vintage....
