The Domaine des Ruaults, composed of 15 hectares, is located in Puy-Notre-Dame in the village of Chavannes in the Saumur wine appellation. The Chenin, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay grapes are perfectly integrated.
Located on several hillsides of different terroir (Turonian and Jurassic), where some parcels are even at an altitude of more than 60 meters, the vines of the domain produce wines with a typical expression of the terroir.
All the viticultural work carried out is done with respect for the vines and in a quest for quality, which is a determining factor for the quality of the wines that are produced thereafter.
When Michel and his team took over the domain in 2016, a great challenge awaited them. For many years, the domain had been run in an intensive way with few means. In these few years, many steps have been taken: the vineyard has regained its biodiversity by stopping total weeding, the soils are grassed and worked. The best parcels have been selected in order to produce quality wines and terroir.
The estate was taken over in 2016 by the Faivre family. Previously, all the production was sold to merchants. Since this takeover, the estate has been developing its own wines with the objective of making terroir wines. The estate has been awarded HVE (High Environmental Value) 3 status in 2020.
"In an approach of a respect for the vine and the search for quality wines, we have grassed all our plots in order to limit inputs."
