Faugères is located 25 km north of Béziers, on the first foothills of the Cévennes, and in the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park. The
only PDO in Languedoc to extend over a terroir with homogeneous schist soil.
Our vines are located at an altitude of 300 to 400m, on hills, on the plain and also on the plateau between Fos and Faugères. This
gives a lot of variety to the aromas. It is the
rebirth of Domaine Frédéric ALQUIER which becomes Domaine Florence ALQUIER. -
20 hectares of
vines in AOP FAUGÈRES-
Carignan, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault for the four red
wines and rosé
,- Marsanne, Roussanne and Grenache blanc for the white wineOnce the
recovery in 2017, the estate chose the BIO conversion.
The grape varieties are those of the ancient Mediterranean Carignan, Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Syrah and Grenache have been brought from the Côtes du Rhône for several decades. These grape varieties make powerful and supple reds. For white wines, Marsanne, Roussanne and Grenache blanc make wines with a beautiful freshness.
Looking for a property in the Faugères appellation, Frédéric Desplats, who has been passionate about wine for 30 years, met Florence Alquier who was selling his property. Frédéric Alquier, her husband, who died three years ago, succeeded Gilbert Alquier and produced on 10 hectares of white, rosé and red grapes, including the famous Eugénie cuvée.
Frédéric Desplats, two other investors and Florence have joined forces to add 10 hectares to the property, still with a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin). Philippe Labouret is an investor
, Denis Degros is an investor and works on the estate.
We are now 4 people; three investors, two of whom work on the property and one viticulture worker. We restore vines and cellar. We have invested in smaller vats to vinify by grape variety and plot. Accompanied by the Natoli laboratories, we try to respect the tradition of the great Faugères appellation. For
our first year, Puech Mourié, which is our "mid-range" wine, finished 5th out of 37 wines from the Faugères appellation tasted for the Revue des Vins de France (RVF) but also selected by the Bettane et Dessauve magazine in 2018 as well as our rosé which was selected by the guide Hachette des vins rosé 2018-2019
. 2018 vintages are in vats. The
analyses are very positive.
