Anecdotes about the domain
In the family, passion does not only revolve around wine. Gastronomy has always been important to complete this elixir. The proof is in the existence of a restaurant, within the Domaine, in the middle of the vineyards. The Auberge La Tuilerie is a delightful establishment, created by Gérard's wife in the 1980s. Today, Sylvie is at the head of the restaurant, offering you inventive and tasty Mediterranean cuisine in an exceptional and bucolic setting. The idea is to discover all our vintages while tasting quality dishes. The loop is closed. Don't hesitate to visit us for a gourmet break in the heart of an authentic family estate.
The domain's short story
It was in 1880 that Jules Henry decided to create a wine estate. Although it does not yet bear this name, he is the famous "Grandfather Jules". After his death, it was René, his third son, who decided to take over and rename the Domaine de La Tuilerie. His vineyard is then represented by hectares of regional appellation Côtes-du-Rhône of the time. René eventually handed over the business to his eldest son, Gérard. He modernized, enlarged and developed the vintages of the Domaine with talent and passion. It is also him who gives birth to the Domaine known as "Grand-Père Jules". More than 100 years later, his son Xavier, today at the head of the family business, is just as passionate as his forefathers about his activity. From the beginning, it is the love of working the land and the permanent quest for excellence that has guided the work of our winemakers from father to son. A business to follow ...
The winemaker's pride
Located in the heart of the vineyard with a breathtaking view of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Domaine Grand-Père Jules has been perpetuating its passion for wine for four generations. In order to closely follow the evolution of the market but also a strong environmental ethic, the vineyard has evolved considerably over the last fifteen years. Both through the acquisition and sale of plots of land, we have constantly sought the balance between producing quality wines, rigorously selecting our grape varieties and, more generally, working the land with the greatest respect, which remains our core business. Today we produce Côtes-du-Rhône, IGP Vaucluse, Côtes-du-Rhône Village Plan De Dieu and Côtes-du-Rhône Village Sablet. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Merlot but also Viognier and Marsanne are part of our range of grape varieties. In 2001, the Domaine was entirely converted to organic farming. This necessary and structuring decision allows us to stop using chemical weed killers and insecticides. We use natural fertilizers based on vegetable compost, in particular grape marc which allows us to soften the soil, by recreating a very strong microbial life in the subsoil. In order to fight against diseases, we use foliar fertilizers based on trace elements with a very limited contribution of copper. All our vines are grassed and worked under the row. The follow-up of the harvest and the vinification is carried out with the greatest attention, until the bottling. The elegance of our wines is a priority.
