Domaine la Bastide is an old fortified farmhouse dating back 800 years. The vineyard is located in Visan on two types of soil: brown to reddish brown pebbles and settlers on old alluvium. It is cultivated in an environmentally friendly way with flower seedlings between rows, the absence of chemicals during phytosanitary treatments. Due to poor soils, yields are limited, 45 hl/ha for the Côtes du Rhône and 38 hl/ha for the Visan.
Bernard and Nicole Boyer, my parents both come from winegrowing families. After graduating as a pomace agricultural engineer, my father worked for 20 years in agricultural machinery and industry. In 1989, my parents decided to found their own estate, at the Domaine de la Bastide in Visan. After a BTS in viticulture and oenology in Montpellier and a diploma in agricultural engineering from ENITA in Bordeaux, I arrived on the estate in 1998 to help my father. Since my father's death in 2008, I have been in charge of the estate alone.
My father devoted his life to building our estate. He passed on to me his passion for dreams, tradition, love of a job well done, honesty and respect for nature. It is to pay tribute to him that I have chosen to select the 3000 best bottles from the estate in order to let you taste the best that our terroir can offer.
The beautiful encounter for me is the osmosis that is created between a man, a terroir and their respective histories. There are ancestral conflicts where religious secrets bring us the remarkable and the culture of the past in a generous bottle. Born from Pontifical soil, the Visan terroir is a pure reflection of the Côtes du Rhône Village where the mysteries of taste purify our epicurean souls.
