The Lacroix-Vanel estate is a small 10ha estate in Caux, in the Languedoc Pézenas appellation. The Syrah vines, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, are composed of small plots on the slopes of ancient volcanoes. The soil, with basalt and gravel, gives the wine finesse and a silky tannin characteristic. In order to make the most of this terroir, the Domaine is managed organically and the grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes.
The Domaine was created in 1998 by Jean-Pierre Vanel who guessed the exceptional potential of this volcanic terroir. He develops the reputation of the estate with vintages that regularly win awards from reference guides.
In 2006, Marc-Olivier Bertrand took over the estate with the desire to keep the name, the vintages, organic farming and the quality of the wines.
After studying biology and then oenology, I quickly turned to wine production by taking the position of technical manager of the farm, in Languedoc, in Beaujolais and then in Provence, still in organic agriculture. The meeting with Jean-Pierre Vanel, the discovery of his vineyard and his wines motivated my desire to have my own estate by taking over Lacroix-Vanel.
The vineyard was acquired through participatory financing with the help of Terra Hominis. It was 130 partners who trusted me and who now follow the company's activity.
