A living soil for authentic wines! The Marc-Olivier BERTRAND estate is a 10ha estate in Caux, in the Languedoc Pézenas appellation. The basaltic soil gives the wine a lot of finesse and a characteristic silkiness of tannins. In order to make the most of this terroir, the Domaine is run in organic and biodynamic agriculture, the grapes are harvested by hand, in small boxes.
The Domaine was created in 1998 by Jean-Pierre Vanel who saw the exceptional potential of this volcanic terroir. In 2006, Marc-Olivier Bertrand took over the domain with the will to maintain the organic agriculture and the quality of the wines by making the style evolve towards more finesse with more advanced cultivation methods and optimized harvest dates.
After studying biology and oenology, I quickly turned to wine production by taking the position of technical manager of a winery in Languedoc, Beaujolais and Provence, always in organic agriculture. The meeting with Jean-Pierre Vanel, the discovery of his vineyard and his wines motivated my desire to have my own domain by taking over Lacroix-Vanel. I have evolved the style of the wines with the search for more aromas with less maturity for concentrated wines without going towards alcohol and extracted tannins. The acquisition of the vineyard was done by a participative financing with the help of Terra Hominis. It is 170 associates who trusted me and who now follow the activity of the company.
