In the heart of the Alsatian vineyard, Nothalten is located on the Alsace wine route between Haut-Koenigsbourg and Mont St-Odile, where the somewhat offbeat history of our estate begins, combining tradition and modernity. A passion passed down from generation to generation, allowing each winegrower to bring his or her own touch of madness, the grape varieties are made up of 7 Alsatian varieties: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir, Muscat, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.We benefit from a great diversity of soils: sandstone, granite, limestone, clay, schist... Which transmit to the Alsatian grape varieties their full maturity and express all their complexities in our wines.
"As a child I had the chance to grow up in the family vineyard with my grandfather and uncle. I first enjoyed a fine military career in the Air Force, then the call of my roots and my curiosity about the land pushed me to pursue the family heritage. I became a winegrower in 1995. In the 2000s, Christine, my wife, joined me in my daily life in the vineyards. Now it is my daughters, Lydie and Marine's turn to continue the history of the family estate:"Our vineyard consists of 60 parcels, very diverse in terms of soil, subsoil and exposure. We observe our soils and try to sublimate them in our wines. We never dominate the Terroir; we submit to it as best we can! We adapt and reason our practices to each of our plots and each of our vines, and we consider that wine is made above all in the vineyard. Consequently, the vinification will essentially consist in preserving the original purity of the fruit. Harvesting grapes at their full maturity. We give time to time, whether in a slow and delicate pressing or in a fermentation of several weeks, the wines are then matured on fine lees in vats, keeping the fruit its finesse and elegance.
We consider that wine is made above all in the vineyard and that being a winegrower means knowing how to constantly question yourself. This is why we reason all our interventions on a case-by-case basis, according to the different types of soil, the orientation of each of our parcels and also the vine plant by plant.
