The domain's short story
When Laurence inherited her grandfather's vineyard 30 years ago, the operation was barely profitable. Laurence and Jean-François put a lot of energy into getting it back on track: investing in state-of-the-art equipment, restoring the vines, selecting the best plots... They embarked on a resolutely qualitative approach that soon propelled them to the forefront of the Côtes du Roussillon appellation. This made their nephew, Guilhem, want to join the adventure in 2015! Their wines are the fruit of the great terroirs of Roussillon, of bold choices that let the vine and the earth speak for themselves, and of revealing maturation. Both creative and authentic, they offer wines for simple and convivial pleasures, as well as for great gastronomic experiences. The white wine vineyard is located on the schist and black marl of Espira-de-l'Agly. The red wines are produced on the limestone terraces of Calce (great wines) and on the pebbles of the Têt river, in Perpignan (greedy reds). On the basis of the family vineyard born in 1904, Laurence and Jean-François Rière created in 1994 the "Domaine Rière Cadène". In 2015, they are joined by Guillem Batlle, the nephew, to continue the adventure. They engage then the Domain in the AB certification. For us, being organic is not a commercial approach; it is an approach to life, a conviction, well before the certification started in 2016. In the vineyard as in the cellar, our philosophy is the least interventionist possible and respectful of the environment: sowing of plant cover, use of plant extracts, respect of natural cycles, strict limitation of inputs...
