Anecdotes about the domain
Certified Agriculture Biologique (Organic Farming), and managed using permaculture, protecting the environment and biodiversity are at the heart of the domaine's objectives, along with total transparency of working methods & a commitment to using as few inputs as possible, to be as close to nature as possible. This young estate has already won several gold medals at international wine competitions, and several 3-star Coup de Coeur wines in the Guide Hachette des Vins. "Wine is a story and the emotions we experience, not the stories we tell."
The domain's short story
In life several lives ago... Raymond after a long career as a commercial executive, made a crazy bet: go back to school and realize his life's dream: make wine, good wine! BTSA Oeno Viti in his pocket, he traded the Paris region, his family and friends, followed by his wife and children, to settle in the beautiful village of Tautavel. Domaine Val de Ray is the result of this crazy dream, the crystallization of the efforts of the whole family and a beautiful promise for the future. The wines of Domaine Val de Ray are like Raymond, non-conformist, surprising, gourmet, close to nature & full of emotions.
The winemaker's pride
Located in the Agly Valley in Tautavel, Domaine Val de Ray extends over 33 hectares, including 18 hectares of PDO vines, mostly old vines on hillsides, and 11 grape varieties that enjoy a multitude of exposures and terroirs (clay-limestone, schist, sandstone...), enabling the production of complex, elegant wines. The estate is run using permaculture methods, preserving the fertile, living soil and protecting its biodiversity, producing expressive, concentrated grapes, hand-picked grapes and natural, unadulterated wines of the highest quality, unique and surprising. A family-run estate on a human scale, everything on the estate is done by hand and naturally (bio-protection), favoring quality over quantity. Through their wines, Raymond & Caroline Hage tell a story of love: love for people, love for wine, love for their terroir and, quite simply, love for doing things well.
