Our domain is atypical.... You want to know why? In 1960, Mr. Pierre Labeye erected a tower on our estate to produce wine based on the principle of gravity. Indeed, about ten tanks are inclined and arranged in circles inside the tower, which has several levels. This tower, as there are 5 in the world, remains ancestral and we find all the richness of its process in each of our wine bottles. We are located in the Drôme provençale. Our vines dotted with rolled pebbles give all their typicity to our wines planted in the Grignan-Les-Adhémar PDO.
I will tell you a little anecdote about the history of our heritage.... Our vineyard is one of the oldest in the Rhône Valley. The Haut Plateau du Bois des Mattes, our sector, was planted with vines as early as the 19th century and remains of Roman wine production have even been found... The soils being comparable to those of Chateauneuf du Pape, for these rolled pebbles and very strong winds the vines were uprooted because they did not have the same notoriety as their neighbour and the difficult cultivation. This place later had a very bad reputation. Indeed, it was often besieged by highwaymen. These robbers hid in the Forest of Mattes and dispossessed transit travellers of all their possessions. This wood was finally cleared in 1960, our first vines were planted and the estate was built with its innovative winemaking tower for the time. Our estate still thrives today and its history remains linked to its tower built on the principle of gravity, but that is another story...
My passion for wine was discovered thanks to my family already present on the estate. Being a winegrower is not just about creating wine. It is first of all to raise the vines as one raises a child, with love and compassion.
Then we become artists and play sorcerer's apprentices with the combination of grape varieties. We pass on our love for our vines right down to the choice of bottle and we hope, like good parents, that our wine will be loved by all.
That our wine brings friendliness and smiles throughout the tasting is our greatest reward, because when you have the passion for your job you want to share it and see it travel!
