Our estate covers 30 hectares of vines with rolled pebbles, on the old bed of the Rhône, typical of the Rhône Valley in AOP Costières de Nîmes. It is the southernmost of the Rhône Valley vineyards, while enjoying the extraordinary freshness of the sea winds. We are striving here to restore the nobility of this underrated appellation, which nevertheless benefits from an exceptional terroir and climate.
In Gallician-Vauvert, in the small Camargue, between Nîmes and Montpellier, the Mas du Notaire, whose stones date back to the middle of the 19th century, takes its name from one of its owners at the beginning of the 20th century, then an honorary notary. Acquired by our family in 2004, it was completely renovated in 2007, while preserving the character and typicity of the building as much as possible. Traditional methods, handed down for more than 5 generations, of vine cultivation, grape harvesting, vinification and maturing are rigorously applied. They contribute to the elaboration of wines of great typicity and finesse... We have also opted for wine tourism by developing gîtes on the estate that can accommodate up to 20 people in a timeless and preserved setting. We grow our own fruit and vegetables on the estate to enable the gîte tenants to eat as much local produce as possible.
For us, our passion for wine is above all a family heritage, handed down from generation to generation. Marie, our cellar master, who fell into it when she was a child, strives to make this heritage bear fruit by bringing her personal touch. The wine that best symbolises the Mas du Notaire is the cuvée Mon Acte, which combines the power inherited from the terroir and a 12-month ageing period in barrels with all the finesse of our finest Syrah vines. The meeting that changed everything for Marie is her experience alongside Claude Gouan at Château de Beaucastel, who greatly influenced her way of making wine and her philosophy as cellar master at Mas du Notaire and Domaine Haut-Lirou. We want to make wines that are accessible to all and share. We are proud of our terroirs and of the way we think about our wine and the way we manage our vines, and that is why we want to make it accessible to the widest possible public, through visits to the estate, 4x4 rides through the vines, tasting days...
