Our estate covers 30 hectares of vines with rolled pebbles, on the old bed of the Rhône, typical of the Rhône Valley in AOP Costières de Nîmes. It is the southernmost of the Rhône Valley vineyards, while enjoying the extraordinary freshness of the sea winds. We are striving here to restore the nobility of this underrated appellation, which nevertheless benefits from an exceptional terroir and climate.
In Gallician-Vauvert, in the small Camargue, between Nîmes and Montpellier, the Mas du Notaire, whose stones date from the middle of the 19th century, takes its name from one of its owners at the beginning of the 20th century, then an honorary notary. Acquired in 2004 by our family, echoing Mireille's first profession, it was completely renovated in 2007, while preserving as much as possible the character and typicity of the building. Traditional methods, handed down for more than 5 generations, of vine cultivation, grape harvesting, winemaking and maturing are rigorously applied. They contribute to the production of wines of great typicity and finesse... We have also chosen wine tourism by creating gîtes within the estate that can accommodate up to 20 people in a timeless and preserved setting. We grow our own fruit and vegetables on the estate to allow the tenants of the cottages to eat as much local produce as possible.
For us, the passion for wine is above all a family heritage, passed on generation after generation. Marie, our cellar master, who fell into it when she was a child, tries to make this heritage grow by adding her own personal touch. The wine that best symbolizes the Mas du Notaire is the Mon Acte cuvée, which combines the power inherited from the terroir and 12 months of barrel ageing with all the finesse of our most beautiful Syrah vines. The meeting that changed everything for Marie is her experience alongside Claude Gouan at Château de Beaucastel, which greatly influenced her way of making wine and her philosophy as cellar master at Mas du Notaire and Domaine Haut-Lirou.
We want to make wines that are accessible to all. We are proud of our terroirs and the way we think about our wine and the way we manage our vines, and that is why we want to make the widest possible public discover it, through visits to the estate, 4x4 rides in the vines, tasting days...
