Château Mélin is a family winery. Our terroir is particularly warm and early. On the one hand, the gravelly soil captures heat and the Dordogne regulates and limits the temperature decrease at night. Deep soil is particularly draining, and therefore subject to water stress in dry years. Grassing should therefore be avoided, with the exception of a few rainy years. Our soils are quite poor because there is no clay-humic complex to revitalize and nourish the soil. We only provide organic and vegetable matter. The Saint-Emilion appellation has different terroirs. Many vines are cultivated on plains or sandy-gravelly plateaus. We are generally the first to harvest in the Libourne area. Our urban vineyard is very early. We must avoid over-maturity because we can end up with a wine approaching 17%!
In 1948, René Debacque bought the vineyard. Both a winegrower and a cattle breeder, a great wine lover, he later turned solely to wine production. His son, Vincent, took over the property with his father, then the grandson Thomas followed the same path. We are always attached to the place where we grow up. It goes further because our estate is a family story, as long as it lasts! For my part, I have always been interested in wine, I have been immersed in it since I was a child. Today, we must adapt and question ourselves on a daily basis without necessarily following certain trends. We must listen to the consumer and seek to make progress, particularly in the environmental field.
Being a winegrower is the long-term vision of our work. A vine stock is planted for a few years, for the production of a very specific wine.
The passion for wine has been passed on to me by many people, by my family and friends. Many wines are essential, enjoy them with a good meal is even better!
We want to produce a fine and fruity wine that can be enjoyed and matched with different dishes. We do not necessarily seek the extraction of tannins but the balance and elegance of our wines. In the world of wine and especially in Bordeaux, we are erased behind the image of the greatest. Our sector is not the only one in this case, well, many little-known wines are still worth a visit!
