Anecdotes about the domain
Today, Maison Veuve Ambal is the leading producer of Crémant de Bourgogne. The talent and dedication of its staff have enabled it to become the specialist and leader of this Appellation in France.
The domain's short story
The history of Maison Veuve Ambal dates back to the end of the 19th century. Anne-Marie Ninot, leaving Paris after the death of her husband, returned to her native Rully and met up with her brother, a wine merchant in the region. Marie was intrigued by the Champagne method, which was booming at the time. She began producing white and red sparkling wines using the méthode champenoise. It was Charles Roux and then Eric Piffaut who successively took over the business in the course of the 20th century. The latter drove the company forward, acquiring several wine estates in Burgundy. He played an active role in the recognition of the AOC in France and around the world. Veuve Ambal had been based in Rully for over a century. In 2005, the company moved into futuristic new premises just outside Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wines. Today, Eric is accompanied by his son Aurélien, who represents the 6th generation of the family.
The winemaker's pride
Veuve Ambal brings together 6 different terroirs representing a total of 250 hectares of vines. This makes the Maison Veuve Ambal one of the largest owners in Burgundy in terms of surface area. All the vineyards are managed in a sustainable manner by the winemakers, who are determined to reduce their use of chemical treatments to restore the natural effectiveness of the vines. This ecologically sustainable management, combined with the diversity of our Burgundy terroirs, produces rich, complex wines. For us, Crémant de Bourgogne is a veritable institution: we use the typicity of each vineyard to produce unique Crémants.
