The estate's unique location, in the heart of the extinct volcano of La Trévaresse, northwest of Aix en Provence, and its altitude - one of the highest in Provence at 430 m - allow VILLA BAULIEU to benefit from a diversity of soils (basalt, limestone marls, etc.), exposures (south, north, west), as well as thermal amplitudes that favour slow maturities with acidities and Ph dignes from large regions like Burgundy. In order to allow the best expression of these terroirs in our wines (red and white only), the vines of VILLA BAULIEU are worked in a rational and manual way. This same philosophy motivates Michel in his work in the cellar, where wood is only used to bring nobility.
Great wines are often born into the hands of men with the same passion and desire to create something unique. The hillsides of Aix en Provence VILLA BAULIEU were born from the meeting of three talented men:- Pierre Guénant : owner of the estate since 2001,- Stéphane Derenoncourt : one of the finest and most intuitive consultants on the wine planet,- Michel Fabre, winegrower and adviser to the Minervois. During the "creation" of VILLA BAULIEU, all the plots of the estate were inspected to facilitate the restructuring. Today, after nearly 10 years of work, we are proud to be able to see our VILLA BAULIEU wines on the most beautiful tables in France, and nicely rewarded in specialized guides!
We have started replanting Sauvignon and Syrah, with a density of 6,000 vines/hectare since our objective is not yield but concentration
