The Domaine JP Riviere is nestled in the heart of the Beaujolais de Pierres Dorées, at the gateway to Lyon.
What are the Golden Stones? Geology? A terroir? Territory? A landscape? Heritage? Wines? Well, it's a little bit all of that at once...
The Pays des Pierres Dorées is a territory that stretches over forty villages, built with limestone tinged with ochre. The sun reflects on the golden facades of castles, churches, houses, wash houses, low walls, wells illuminating the hilly landscape to give it that air of little Beaujolais Tuscany.
Geologically, our subsoil is full of this limestone that shapes our landscape. Covered with a layer of clay, this clay and limestone combination reveals the terroir of the Pierres Dorées. This terroir gives our wines a remarkable identity and potential, fine white and mineral wines and fruity red wines with a beautiful tannic structure.
Our Domaine is above all a family story.
Winegrowers since 1682, our ancestors have been cultivating vines for several centuries, but it was Jean-Pierre, our father, who was the first generation to leave mixed farming to devote himself to his passion for vines and wine. Jean-Pierre and our mother Colette started in 1984 in Lachassagne with three hectares of vines.
Our Domaine is gradually growing to reach 25 hectares, 7 hectares of which are at Château de Saint-Trys on beautiful clay-limestone soils, typical of the Pierres Dorées.
In the 1990's, our Domaine began a process of sustainable production, including the grassing of the vines and launched the first vintages aged in oak barrels. We, their children grow up, starting all our studies in wines.
After training as an oenologist in Changins (Switzerland) and a trip to New Zealand and California, Alexandre joins our parents for the 2013 harvest.
In 2017, the Domaine starts the construction of its new vinification vatting house which it inaugurates for the harvest in September 2018. In the meantime Marine is about to return to the Domaine to help Jean-Pierre, Colette and Alexandre develop direct sales. The will to make discover our country of the Golden Stones, our trade and our wines, naturally pushes us to create Oenotouristic activities and events.
2019 is a great year for our Domaine as it is certified "Terra Vitis", an environmental label, a unique reference in sustainable viticulture. In
view of the efforts made in terms of biodiversity and agro-ecological measures, our estate is also certified High Environmental
