Its history began in 1626, when Monsignor François de Baradat, rich owner of a domain in Fleury-la-Rivière in Champagne, first man of Louis XIII, found himself exiled by Richelieu for rumours of love and for having also provoked a duel with the Marquis de Seguier. Lord of Fleury-la-Rivière, François de Baradat then wished to return to these lands. These are renowned for their red wine production. After returning to court, he left his estate to the ancestors of the Marc Family.
For centuries, Maison Marc has perpetuated the ancestral know-how of its ancestors, while guaranteeing the evolution of production techniques. A guarantee of quality to find the best champagnes. 12 generations of passionate winegrowers have succeeded one another, highlighting the know-how passed down from father to son and creating a magical alchemy between the technique of winemaking processes and the emotion of creating their own products. To live up to their ambitions, the champagne house has chosen to control its grapes through different specific production methods:
A traditional press is used to better control the press, malolactic fermentation does not exist in their process, the ageing of the champagnes lasts at least 3 years and a few vintages are only made every 2 years in order to select only the best juices... In the same spirit, the House only uses so-called first press musts for its vintages, where the quality is the best. Less quantity for more quality....
Located in Fleury-la-Rivière, in the Marne Valley not far from Epernay, Maison Marc benefits from a singular terroir, particularly adapted to the elaboration of exceptional wines. Its vines, about thirty years old, are deeply rooted in a clay-limestone soil. They are in harmony with a protective sun, leaving its slopes to a superb light and allowing its fruits to gorge themselves with sugar and generous aromas. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier are the three grape varieties of the Champagne region that are represented here and that allow the Maison Marc to produce rich and varied cuvées. The key word of the house is: "To create good champagnes you need good grapes". This is also why the Marc champagne has positioned itself in a reasoned culture to remain in line with their principles of protection of the environment of the vine.
The method of fermentation that we use is quite rare in the world of champagne because we do not perform malolactic fermentation. This is also what sets our house and our champagnes apart. This method of production helps the champagne to keep all its freshness and subtle lemon aromas.
Our champagne fermentation method makes it a very rare champagne because it is made without malolactic fermentation. This method allows the champagne to keep its freshness and its lemony, floral aromas.
