Château Canadel is the latest addition to Bandol's estate. After having brought grapes to a large estate in Bandol, we have just built our cellar to produce the wines that resemble us. Our vineyard, leaning against the hillside, is cultivated while "restanques", in the respect of the soils and nature, so that the beauty of our terroir can be expressed in our wines. The 98 remaining parts of the estate are grouped around the bastides, on a hill facing south. The soils are based on very old soils from the Triassic period (-200 Million years ago). The limestones, clays and marl from these soils ensure a regular supply of water to the vines and give our wines soft and silky tannins. We have always cultivated the vine in a way that respects the life of the soil. Since 2014, we have been in organic conversion and working the vines in biodynamics to ensure that our terroir is fully expressed in our wines. The cellar, built in 2014, is leaning against the hill, to be able to take advantage of its gravity and thus avoid pumping and keep the purity of the fruit intact.

Our story

Since 2009, Laure, an agricultural engineer, and her husband Vianney, an agronomist and oenologist, have been at the head of the estate. For 5 years, they tamed the vines, walked through the restanques, carrying out all the work on the vines, while designing the future cellar, which will come out of the ground in 2014. We are passing through this land... we inherit a magnificent vineyard, in perfect condition, cultivated by generations of enthusiasts. The vines we cultivate are between 20 and 60 years old. They are in perfect condition, very well balanced, and you can smell it in the wines. For us, 95% of a great wine is made in the vineyard. It is up to us to transmit to maintain this treasure!

Other little stories

My parents are cereal farmers. I learned from them about the love of the land and the work well done. It was while I was at school in Beauvais that I met Laure, whose parents suggested that we take over this fabulous estate. From a cereal grower, I specialized in vines while continuing my studies in Montpellier and Bordeaux where a new passion was born. A wine is made to be shared! To enjoy it, it must be well accompanied: by good friends, and good food! This is our conception of wine, and that is why we make wines that resemble us: gourmet rosés, to perfectly accompany your summer dinners, and reds that express our terroir, with a beautiful freshness, a beautiful delicacy.

When I was a kid, my father often told us the tale of the ploughman and his children, of Jean de La Fontaine: "Work, take trouble: it's the least missing fund"... Canadel's treasure is in the vines, in its soil and in the work we do to reveal this treasure! I like sharing. Coming from a world outside the world of wine, I have made my place there, little by little. Do not hesitate to push the doors of the cellars. Winegrowers all have beautiful stories to tell and very often the wines look like the winegrower who makes them. That's what I like about wine.
